Rifle Scopes - Do They have To Be High End

Yrs ago I 1st heard the term "gun snob". This is a person which will look down his nose if your gun doesn't live up to what he has decided is a "proper" firearm. It may be that it isn't the right brand, is too inexpensive to be any good, or perhaps the wood isn't fine sufficient to be worthy of consideration by those of the upper crust. The very same sort of individual exists where telescopic sights are concerned, the "scope snob".

Rather frankly, I have little use for this style of individual. As no-one appreciates a fine hand crafted firearm more so than I, not everyone can afford one. The fact of the matter is that you can take just as numerous head of game with an inexpensive arm as with a costly one, and have just as much fun doing it!

Pretty much the same thing could be mentioned for rifle scopes. Yes a super-duper high- dollar scope is a thing of beauty and a joy to behold, yet that doesn't mean you cannot get the job done with an inexpensive one.

Now, some could say the only option to go is to get a Leupold, Burris, etc. and that they are a better product than many of the less expensive brands, yet better how, and at what price level? What are you paying for when you buy a high end optic? Mostly you're paying out for added light gathering ability that's only noticeable in the very 1st few minutes of daylight, or the last few at dusk. You have to consider if it makes sense to pay quite a few times the expense simply for those few extra mins. If it does, well then why not get a Swarovski? It is supposedly brighter in low light than the others, yet then again at what cost? You see, it is all relative. You rapidly reach the point of lowering returns. You must pay way more to gain relatively little.

I own both Leupold and Burris scopes and they are fine pieces of equipment indeed. I also own low end scopes. No, they aren't as bright and not very as clear under certain situations, yet they still let me to bag just as much game and at a much lower price. Would I take a low end scope on a costly once in a lifetime hunt? No, I'd not, but for almost all individuals I dare say a Cadillac is nice, but a Ford or Chevy will still get you in which you want to go. There's a place for them all. Don't forget, it's the thrill of the hunt that actually matters!
